Really? An engineering teacher for the middle school? When I see more kids walking home with books in their hands then maybe, but I don't think we're there yet. Beef up the core curriculum first. Every day I see kids walking out of that school with empty backpacks - or more common, no bag at all, hands empty. View Comment
I agree with CommonSense68. In the past Northbridge has had some if the best cleared roads around. Between this storm and the last one, there's LOTS of room for improvement. New DPW head is falling short. We've had multiple storms in past winters where plows had to deal with 18" already on the ground and then another foot got dumped and the roads were always cleared to the ground and the shoulders were well pushed back. Yup, legally the headline is correct, and yes, she could be found innocent since anything is possible. However, I think we both know, most one car accidents involving a car and a utility pole where the person is charged at the scene with DUI, are, unfortunately found to be the result of driving drunk.
Surely, if this had been a case of a medical condition (heart attack, seizure, etc.) causing the accident, that would have been reported.
Just sick of seeing so many instances of drinking and driving - no excuse for it whatsoever. View Comment
Oldman, the bottom line is, when the weather necessitates treating the roads, you treat the roads. Regardless of whether school is in session or not. People have to get to work safely, delivery trucks need to drive through town, and daily life needn't be interrupted by the kind of weather we had today - not in this day and age - we certainly have the equipment to get the job done.
I don't need to read this year's road treatment policy. I PAY THE DPW to do a job, as does anyone else in town paying property taxes. Again, this has not been a tough winter - there is money in the budget for the DPW to do their job so that others can get to theirs safely and on time.
Enough already, with the blind support of anyone who works for the town or works in town management. Same old story - how dare the tax payers have an opinion, right? Sickening. View Comment
EXACTLY - a delay would have been much more appropriate. I used to walk to school in worse weather. The forecast calls for the snow to stop midday.
Oldman - "you may wish to make some relevant phone calls" to the DPW and remind them to salt the roads prior to a "storm" and a few snow plows should be out there as well - you know, to prevent liability. This new DPW guy must have slept in. Just saw the first plow and it's 9:00am. If the roads had been treated the schools could have been delayed or biz as usual. View Comment
That school needs to be torn down and a new one needs to be built. That building wasn't built very well and having asbestos tiles that are 45 yrs old in the cafeteria where the children eat every day is a disgrace.
The town had an opportunity to apply for to state funds (up to 90%) several years ago and some numbskull missed the deadline. Maybe this time someone will make a note on their calendar and get that eyesore replaced. View Comment

Thanks Sonny, I have actually been aware that we have been paying the $102K or many years with only "indirect" service - which I have never been a fan of - seems to benefit Grafton much more than Northbridge.
I was a daily public transportation commuter for many years - 20 to be exact - so I well understand he benefits. Just thought I left my city life behind - not looking forward to sharing the roads with buses. That's all. View Comment

What you outlined would be nice if that's how it's going to work - the article doesn't say anything to that effect. Would be great to have more info from the town on how this is going to work.
Where would these bus routes be, anyway? I don't know how I feel about a public bus running through town. Would really take away from the small town feel of Northbridge.
Depending on the times, it could still be of limited value to anyone relying on the commuter rail to get to and from work. View Comment

I hope they win. It's a clear case of discrimination against a protects class. I'm surprised the sale of the property to Mr. Knott was allowed to go through while there was pending litigation. Maybe Knott will sell it to this couple and they can start work on their new business which would have been great for the town. View Comment
