I think some people forget that driving in the state of Massachusetts is a privilege, not a right. And the state can revoke that privilege whenever they want.
I do agree that it could have been county based bans but better safe then sorry.. overall I think it helped out crews tremendously and probably saved quite a few lives as well. View Comment
I think they did a pretty good job by Saturday at 5pm... Lots of blacktop could be seen on the primaries. As far as secondary roads, they were still a bit rough even yesterday.. but the roads are in such poor condition I believe it becomes a lesser of two evils.. Either clear the remaining snow and chance wrecking the equipment on the massive potholes or let it melt out and not dig up anymore of the awful patchwork that was done instead of paving the whole road. Still not sure why, but the Mobile in town is selling diesel at $4.19 a gallon... but in Millbury its only $3.99 a gallon. I doubt that has anything to do with the cost per barrel... just sayin! If you wanna save 20 cents per gallon head over to the station across from CVS in Millbury. View Comment
Forget it... Just add a toll booth to Westborough rd. and call it a day. Anything over 6000lb GVW pays $100.00 road use toll.. =-)
On a serious note, if you want to shut this guy down, get him on the transfer side of the business.. make it difficult for the trucks to get in and out of town. The town should profit from this is one way or another... View Comment
People need to think broader scale here... I'm 50/50 on the idea as I'm a privacy nut.. but the benefits could quickly outweigh the negatives. The original idea for police is obvious... But consider how well this would do for children that are getting bullied.. This would definitely be a good deterrent. If an incident occurred.. you could run the tapes back therefore it's no longer one persons words vs another... View Comment
I grew up on a well and feel your pain there... Ended up getting a generator... I think I'm going to start looking for generators again.. National grid cannot seem to keep the power on whenever there is any kind of storm. View Comment
The power came back on pretty quickly from that incident ... But apparently they still can't fix the wind knocking the power out this morning at 4:15am.. Was still out at 6:30am...
Hope the driver is ok... 122 has been accident alley lately.. View Comment
His parents must be proud. My opinion is police chases are a catch 22 and ultimately necessary to reduce the possibility of more reckless driving... If criminals knew cops wouldn't chase they would just run every time possibly causing more problems/injury's down the road. If you have ever been pulled over for anything the first thing you do is look in the rear-view mirror and make a decision whether to stop or run. 99.9 will stop... that .1 will run... take away any chance of a high speed chase and that 99.9% will fall eventually endangering other pedestrians.
Hopefully the innocent victim pulls though with no lifelong injuries... And for the car thug?.... My tax dollars won't be paying for his 3 hots and a cot and I'm satisfied with that outcome. View Comment
Happy to see that no one was seriously injured. What does this make in the last 3~4 months 4 roll overs? Hard to believe when the speed limits are so low around here... that section of the road is 30mph... View Comment
I was thinking the same thing. 15 years of truck driving tells me that unless they have 360 degrees of maneuverability (special trailers like they used for the space shuttle" They can forget about that turn at bridge street. I may take the day off just to come and watch them try that.
I saw another crew work a ~20' high turbine for a Nuclear power station up a main road in PA one time... they had a lot guys working controls on some 30 axles that turned 360 degrees in place.
Hopefully Grafton and G/U RR can get on the same page. Business if good for a small town but what's the real reason the BOS is blocking? Is it a Nimby issue? If so they're probably SOL. A little late in the game for that isn't it? View Comment
Health insurance should be covering that cost imo. If these dogs are really helpful to people with Mr. Sheridan's condition, how can they justify not paying for it? I hope for the family's sake you can raise the funds needed. You should put up a free website with an instant tracker so that the town can see how close to your goal you are. View Comment
I watched a special on the American version of Top gear... They put 3 future police cars against each other and drove them pretty tough... That looks a lot like the "Interceptor" Just because it doesn't have a V8, that car can still boasts 365HP... all wheel drive twin turbo no less.. although they call them Eco-boosts... The other motor available is the 265hp for the naturally asp's motor.. also available in AWD but a lot less fun it seams..

Good luck with your new vehicles... and lets hope to never see them in my rear view. =-) View Comment
With Worcester being so close to Grafton, Does anyone even think they'll have a chance to open one or want to open one in this town? My guess is Worcester will house all 5 establishments for the county. At which point, this question becomes a non-issue for Graftonites.
Although it would be a dream to walk down 122... Dispensary, Pizza shops, Dunkin Donuts, Chinese food, Swirls and Scoops!!! Just saying! wahka wahka wahka... View Comment
Not sure why anyone is surprised by the tax increase. Quite a few people voted for the new school and were told taxes would increase.
Taxes going up
Health insurance going up.
Gas and oil going up.
Price of food going up.
Utility bills going up.
Unemployment going up.
National Dept going up.
Average income going down
Property values going down
Our government is getting awfully top heavy!
Big town expectations on a small town budget... always hurts the wallet of the tax payer.
P.S. We need MORE soccer fields please!

Fights happen... although running away won't do you any good.. I'm sure there were about 25-30 other kids willing to drop the name of the guy who ran. Police probably beat him to his house.
@cuckmere
Some of them probably work at the S&S, and figure they won't be hassled by the police for loitering. I don't think a "Youth Club" would be the answer... You're not going to stop every fight, and a lot of these kids are trying to get away from grown-ups, not spend more time with them.
I've always thought having a youth dance party like they do at the Police station is a good outlet for the kids. But instead of using a dolled gymnasium.. have it at the Grafton, Inn upstairs in the banquet facility or equal... It has more of a "club" feel and doesn't remind anyone of every bad 60's 70's or 80s movie that had school dance's in them. Obviously remove any liquor... Some kids barely have enough money to put gas into their cars, let alone go to a movie which is a 15 minute ride out of town.. or bowling 20 minutes away... When you really look at it.. what does this town honestly offer to children during the evening hours? Liquor stores, Pizza shops, Chinese restaurants, Dunkin Donuts, and a coffee shop across the street that has the oddest hours.. I swear I've vacuumed my car at least a dozen times on the weekends and that place is never open.
Every one of the things that I listed equates to loitering and no energy spent. A recipe for frustration in youths..
Not all is lost though... We have plenty, reiterate plenty! of soccer fields... with more on the way I'm sure! There's also a whole lot of sitting that can be done in the new "green" S. Grafton park.. be sure to do your sitting before dark though... Police will chase you for loitering. View Comment
This morning on my way to work around 6:30am I'm sitting at the light on 122 and 140...about to make the left. I was privy to witness a red Ford stake body truck and a black nissan altima Drag race from the light to the Dunkin Donuts and nearly slam the poor driver that was trying to make the right into the drive through... They were both stopped at the light coming from the town center... I was hoping this was one of those days that the Grafton PD was sitting in Swirls and scoops parking lot... I would have pulled over and shook the officers hand if he got them both.. But unfortunately they were MIA... View Comment
I would love to see more tickets being issued to the self important people that tear up the right lane in front of the New H.S. and cut in right infront of Dunkin's... IMO that right lane shouldn't be for left hand turns, it's poorly designed and the merge area is entirely too small to allow for safe merging. So in turn what you have are two lanes of traffic turning trying to merge together within 200~300ft and hoping nobody jams on the breaks because DD drive through is clogged up... View Comment
I agree with you Bubbly, Clearing your head is one thing, going on a walkabout without telling anyone where or when you will be back is cause for attention. He's 25 and he ran away like a 10 year old... Basically he stepped out of his current life and walked amongst everyone, like he was somebody else for 10 days... living in the woods, going to D&D and other stores, not making contact with anyone that may know him.... Serial killers do such things... "Hey, are you about a size 14?" The court should have 5150'd him.
As far as costs involved I'm sure there will be no charges or convictions since going for a walk at 25years old isn't against the law... Pony up tax payers.. View Comment
I actually like the pizza at Lakeview...although their pizza sauce is missing something (bite) that I can't put my finger on.... The rest of the pizza places in town are mediocre at best. A&D is still the best and they deliver to Grafton.
I wish this new guy good luck! The pizza better be good to pull business from the center of town. What I wouldn't give to get a slice of Jersey shore boardwalk pizza... and a Stromboli...not a Calzone..... View Comment
