MILLBURY, Mass. — With a full slate of great games this week, Central Mass. Football has plenty of interesting matchups. Stay tuned to your Daily Voice town reporters for all the upcoming scores and stats.
Auburn at St. Peter Marian -
The Rockets appear unbeatable at this point of the season. Behind a huge offensive line, Auburn takes over the line of scrimmage and punishes opponents. Last week, Tyler Desjardins rushed for 127 yards and three touchdowns as the Rockets blasted Holliston 35-0. The Guardians have a game-changing wide receiver in Noah Burke, but will the young offensive line hold up long enough to get him the ball?
Millbury at Uxbridge -
Millbury has used a punishing ground game, led by Ross Sudar, to start the season 2-0. Sudar had 200 yards last week against St. Bernard’s to break open a close game. The Woolies won 27-6.
Uxbridge will be looking to rebound after being shut out 27-0 by Grafton last week. The Spartans will look toward quarterback Jake Taparausky and a trio of running backs, Jared Stewart, Joe Fitzgerald and Brad Couture, to carry the offense.
Grafton at Shepherd Hill -
The Indians used a strong running game (46 rushes for 254 yards) and smothering defense to blank Uxbridge 27-0. Grafton has yet to be scored upon this season. Doug Oevermann had 9 rushes for 104 yards and a touchdown as the big ground gainer last week.
The Rams used big plays to beat St. Peter Marian and also come in 2-0. Matt Vertucci scored on a 69-yard run and quarterback Drew Ravenelle scored on a 36-yard keeper to win the game in crunch time last week.
Leicester at Burncoat -
The Wolverines (2-0) come in after blasting North 34-6 and Oakmont 21-0 as junior quarterback Drew Mazzeo rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown. They spread the ball around and will be looking to do the same this week.
Burncoat (0-2) is still looking for answers offensively as they’ve been shut out in both games thus far. It will be a tough game for the Patriots to get untracked.
St. John’s at Catholic Memorial -
The Pioneers (2-0) blasted Longmeadow 35-14 last week as quarterback Drew Smiley accounted for all five touchdowns, throwing for three and running for two more as they broke open a close game. Keep an eye on running back Shad Abrokwah who had 202 yards in St. John’s opener against Holy Name.
Doherty at Shrewsbury -
The Colonials (1-1) beat Marlborough 35-14 last week as Zach Dionis rushed for 159 yards and a touchdown. Nick Diliberto chipped in with three touchdown runs. Mike Coggeshal has a powerful and accurate arm. Look for Shrewsbury to throw more in this one.
Doherty (2-0) has been racking up the points behind a balanced attack led by quarterback Luke Brennan and running back Abdullah Webster. They beat Tantasqua 30-23 to go 2-0 for the first time in 19 years.
Nashoba at Algonquin -
Algonquin (1-1) is off to rough start to the season, losing to Wachusett 35-0 last week. The Tomahawks gave up four long touchdowns, one on special teams, and are still looking for their first points of the season.
Hudson at Westborough -
The Rangers (0-2) lost to Holy Name 35-7 last week after dropping a tough one to Shepherd Hill in their opener. The Rangers are led by quarterback Dan Orlando and will have a tough test in their home opener against Hudson (1-1), who used a punt return and a blocked field goal to beat Gardner in their opener before losing to Leominster last week.
Tantasqua at Northbridge -
The Rams (2-0) are rolling, outscoring opponents 91-7 through the first two games. Behind quarterback Matt Phelan and their spread passing attack, the Rams rolled over David Prouty 49-0 last week. This game was over by halftime as Northbridge outscored Prouty 35-0, allowing them to get plenty of playing time for their subs.
The Warriors (1-1) are led by quarterback Randy Harrington who threw for two scores and ran for another in last week’s loss to Doherty. He’ll have a tough test this week keeping up with a potent Northbridge offense.
Wachusett at Fitchburg -
The Mountaineers used big plays to blast Algonguin 35-0 last week. Trevor McNeil had touchdown runs of 20 and 70 yards, Owen Gibbons had a 60-yard touchdown run and Cam Ruziak chipped in with a 59-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Fitchburg (0-2) was blasted by Nashoba last week 41-7 and is still trying to get untracked offensively.

They outwit every opponent and wins every game. That's a good sign that this team is good and has better potentials to get the championships. I'll have to buy tickets at BCSNationalChampionshipTickets.net for this event.

Because of school choice, and Auburn's choice to recruit Worcester South kids, I think Auburn football should be called Wauburn football.
Algonqin is 1-1 not 0-2. They beat Burncoat 26-0 in week 1.
