LEICESTER, Mass. — Leicester's Special Education Parent Advisory Council will welcome new Schools Superintendent Judith Paolucci as its guest speaker on Thursday.

Reinvigorated last year by a group of parents, the Leicester SEPAC has continued its mission to offer resources, education and a network of support to families of special education students as well as the larger Leicester community.

Each month, the council's public meetings feature speakers on special education issues. Topics range from presentations on sensory therapy to discussions of understanding Section 504  — a law that prohibits discrimination against students with disabilities and provides for equal access to education.

This month, the SEPAC has invited Paolucci to visit the group, allowing parents an early opportunity to get to know the district's new superintendent.

Paolucci took over from the district's former Schools Superintendent Paul Soojian at the end of January.

Selected unanimously by the school committee after an intensive search for a replacement, Paolucci was superintendent of schools in Yarmouth, Maine. Prior to that, she was an assistant superintendent in Rhode Island.

February's SEPAC meeting will be from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at Leicester Primary School.
