LEICESTER, Mass. ‒ The Daily Voice welcomes signed, original letters to the editor. Send letters to dcastro@dailyvoice.com.

To the editor:

Do you believe any one person should sit in the same political seat for 26 years?

Regardless of party affiliation, 26 years is a long time for any one person to be sitting in the same seat. For the first time in 12 years we have a choice for state rep in Leicester and the Webster Square area of Worcester. We have Bill LeBeau, candidate for state rep.

LeBeau has a work history that we can all respect and support regardless of our party affiliation. First and foremost he is a combat veteran, serving his country in Desert Storm. He again served our communities through law enforcement as a police officer. Most recently, he drove an 18 wheeler truck. This is someone who understands the struggles of the middle class.

LeBeau will bring a diverse perspective to the State House, understanding issues that relate to all of us, whether it is job creation both in the private sector or unionized, public safety, or veterans issues. As an engaged voter himself, Bill has a deep understanding of local, state, and federal issues and legislation that he has proactively followed for years. His work perspective, coupled with his knowledge of the issues, makes LeBeau the right person to represent this district.

In volunteering for Bill during this campaign, one thing that made a difference to me is his suggestion of a non-binding question on our local ballots. It is a great measuring tool for our leaders to use so they can represent the district properly. For years, we have had a rep that has blindly represented us without really polling the district on our beliefs. After all, our rep is hired by the voters, and should know how his or her district feels on issues so they can cast their vote at the State House on behalf of us, not just himself or what his party tells him to do.

I would be proud to have Bill LeBeau represent Leicester/Worcester at the State House. I feel confident that he will seek out voters’ opinions to represent our district in a way it has not been represented in 26 years. Join me in casting your vote for Bill LeBeau on November 6th.

CLE:

I have voted for Mr Binienda the last time AND the time before that , but this time I feel strongly that there needs to be a change, 26 years is too long to be an effective lawmaker, and just because Mr Binienda holds office hours for 2 hours a month does not in my mind make him very effective at all.
we need someone new .

Down Range:

As a disabled veteran I will be voting for a fresh face with new ideas to represent us on Beacon Hill. Please join me on Tuesday, November 6 and vote for William LeBeau.

Douggie:

Although I agree with the point that 26 years is a long time for anyone to be in office, I disagree with the point that he is leading blindly. Mr. Binienda holds office hours in Leicester frequently where residents can go voice their concerns with any issue. Further, I do not see what Mr. LeBeau has done to gain any better understanding than Mr. Binienda.

Leicester citizen:

I think she is refering to a public referendum.

What non-binding ballot question?
