Obituary: Judith S. (Prunier) Mattress, 71

WORCESTER, Mass. - Judith S. (Prunier) Mattress, 71, of Worcester died peacefully Sunday, September 2, 2012 at the home of her daughter surrounded by the family she loved so much.


Judy was born in Worcester, a daughter of Ernest and Cecile (Birtz) Prunier. She was educated in Worcester, met and married her husband of the next forty seven years, Raymond F. Mattress, Jr. Together they settled in Worcester area to raise their family and have lived here ever since.


Judy’s husband Raymond died in 2009. She is survived by her devoted family; Raymond F. Mattress, III, his wife Kellie and their children Domenic and Anthony of Auburn, Catherine M. Dadah, her husband John and their children Hannah and Ava Marie of Holden, Lynne A. Moore, her husband Andrew and their children Sarah, Timothy and Thomas of Leicester, Mary F. Sampson, her husband Daniel, Simba and Sammy of Worcester. Her sister, Theresa Turgeon of Worcester; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A sister, Carol Gibson and brother, Gary Prunier all predeceased her.


Judy was a member of St Stephen’s Church. An accomplished singer, Mrs. Mattress was a member of several church choirs, including St. John’s, St. Stephen’s and Our Lady of Loreto Churches. She sang at many weddings and funerals. Judy also loved to dance; she and her husband could be found on the dance floors of several places including Mt. Carmel dances and the Froshinn Club on Saturday nights.

Most important in Judy’s life was family. They were her life’s inspiration; she cherished the times with her family especially the holidays and their annual trips to the White Mountains of New Hampshire.


Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Thursday September 6 from 4  to 7 p.m. in the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be held Friday, September 7 from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton St. Burial next to her husband will follow in St John Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105
