GRAFTON, Mass. -- Alert the children, a new Simba has been born  -- and he's a patient at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Grafton.

The Tufts University Veterinary School is treating a one week old lion cub that was born at Southwick's Zoo in Mendon.  Details on why the cub is there were unavailable, but Southwick's posted on Facebook about the birth of two cubs to resident lions Leroy and Savannah on Oct. 19, noting the following day that they planned to keep them temporarily off-site.

The cub was at Tufts on Wednesday, received an ultrasound at the Foster Hospital for Small Animals, and then was rewarded with a drink of milk.

Tufts has had several patients from Southwick's in recent years,  including two tigers that were spayed and Molly, a newborn giraffe.

Stay glued to The Grafton Daily Voice for updates.  Until then, take a look at the pictures. Ready...set...awwwww.
