LEICESTER, Mass. — St. Joseph and St. Pius X parishes in Leicester held their third annual Family Fall Festival on Saturday, continuing a tradition that began with former pastor Stephen Johnson, who died last year.

Activities included raffles and bake sales, a kids carnival and an African Dance performance by members of St. Andrews Parish in Worcester, giving local families a full day of fun together.

That had been the hope of the late pastor, who originally envisioned the day as an opportunity for the congregations and townspeople to get together, regardless of denomination, and spend a day with their families.

The event also is a fundraiser for the parishes, and brought in about $7,500 Saturday, according to Sharon Richford.

To commemorate Johnson, the church will rededicate the chapel to him at the Mother of Saint John House on Saturday following the 4:30 p.m. Mass.

St. Joseph's Church is located at 759 Main St., Leicester.
