LEICESTER, Mass. — The award-winning Beatles tribute band "Beatles For Sale" will perform at this Saturday's fundraiser for the Leicester Library Campaign — part of a celebration to honor the town's 300th anniversary.
The New England-based band has been bringing the sounds of the British Invasion for years with its live concerts, and has received the Worcester Music Award for “Best Live Act.”
In past years, Beatles For Sale has been one of the most popular headliners for at Leicester's Concerts on the Common, and this weekend's performance will help raise funds to expand and renovate the historic Leicester library.
In May, the Massachusetts Library Board of Commissioners approved the library's $4.2 million grant proposal request. Since then, the Leicester Library campaign has worked to raise the required $3.1 million for the rest of the project.
So far, a $2 million pledge made last April by an anonymous donor together with support from local businesses and residents has brought the remaining amount to just below $1 million, according to Library Trustee Teena Cherry.
Set for 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 2 at the Leicester Country Club, the celebration will feature live music, dancing, hors d’oeuvres, door prizes, cash bar and a Chinese raffle.
Tickets are available at the library. The cost is $40 each, $75 per couple, or $350 for a table of 10.
